None of my progress would have been possible without you. I reached out to you over the summer because I had randomly stumbled across your account on Instagram. I did not think you would respond to me, featuring the fact that I was some random dude talking about a disability that you had never heard of. You showed interest in helping me, which was something I had not experienced before. You took time out of your personal life to educate yourself on my disorder, and then proceeded to form a plan to help me. You helped me instill the confidence in myself to become successful, and for that I will eternally thank you. You are truly an amazing human, and you will make it far within your career because of the passion that you bring to your clients. The only thing that motivated me to reach out to you was desperation. My desperation turned into motivation, and it ended up changing my life. My body will most likely never be where it was 5 years ago, but the improvements I’ve made in the past 4 months have been drastic. I’ve now been able to walk substantial distances with no crutches. I threw a freaking football last week, it was a beautiful moment, and you helped me do that.
I've worked with a lot of people, this is what they have to say:
(There are a few hundred, so they'll take time to load... Sorry!)
And I know that this type of testimonial doesn't matter as much, but think of it like a character reference. Some people like me! Well, I just deleted the mean ones and these were left over...
We started our journey with me coming to you after completing physical therapy for my knees and left shoulder. I enjoyed how you allowed me be myself and allow me to come out of my shell slowly. You are more than just a coach for me. You became a great influence and friend for me. I consider you as my family. Outside of my success with sports, you also help coached me into an awesome strength and conditioning coach, trainer, mentor, and some exercise therapy trainer. We met all the goals that we had needed to reach. We even started training for rugby flag football, and Tackle Football. Training with you allow me to bring home numerous awards and trophies. The year I play rugby we placed second at Nationals. Flag Football I received Rookie of the Year, Offense linemen of the Year, and Defensive Player of the year. My last year playing for JYD we placed 4th at Nationals. Tackle football, I have two Founders Bowl Champions. You have continued to push me to be the best version of myself personally, professionally, and as an athlete who won’t sit down lol.
I started working with Graham my junior year of high school (2017) because I had just verbally committed to play Division 1 soccer at The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina. I knew that I needed to get a trainer to get in shape to be an asset on the field and survive the military environment in which I was about to enter. I was trying to improve my endurance, overall strength, mental fortitude, breathing, and survive the dreaded yo-yo fitness test.
Graham was absolutely the best coach I could have ever asked for. He knew what he was talking about and was able to apply it in a fun way, taking my personality and quirks in stride. He pushed and challenged me physically but was always right behind me with a positive attitude and tons of support. He has this amazing sense of when something is too much, or too overwhelming, and is able to adapt the exercise to something that fits you. I really appreciated having such an amazing coach, and mentor, beside me as I completed my senior year of high school and went on my very challenging journey through freshmen year. I always look forward to coming home on break to get to work out with him!
I went into my freshman year of college soccer fully prepared to tackle 90 minutes on the field at a very high level, all thanks to Graham. I was able to take the techniques I learned from Graham into the weight room and safely and confidently complete the lifts laid out for us. I have grown so much, mentally and fitness-wise, from working with Graham, learning valuable skills and essential tools to allow me to compete well at a high level.
I would whole-heartedly recommend Graham as your strength/performance coach. It is important to find a coach that you can connect with, who will be able to motivate you and get you to where you need to be, while having fun along the way! I don’t know where I would be without him, and I strongly encourage you to give him a try- no matter where you are in your fitness journey!
I started working with Graham so that I could get ready for a try out with a professional hockey team in Europe. My main goal was to become a better athlete by improving my explosiveness, speed, and agility. What I appreciated the most was how personable Graham was as a trainer. From day one I felt comfortable and ready to go. He was always there to not only help me train but also to help me with my issues in general. His goal wasn’t to make money but to actually help me get better. I ended up making the team and signed my first professional contract! Working out on your own is great but when you have a trainer, you can push yourself a little harder. The great thing about a trainer is that they’re able to push you on days when you’re not as motivated and in the end you’ll get better results out of your workouts!
I started working with Graham after being released from physical therapy for surgery on my foot. I was seeking a trainer who understood the post-surgery rehabilitation process and who would challenge me to improve in all aspects of my physical fitness. After a brief introductory consultation with Graham, I knew he understood both my near and long-term mobility and fitness goals, more importantly, he encouraged me to set realistic short and long-term goals and provided motivation to help me achieve many of those goals.
Graham’s attention to detail and constant and diligent research to find out what the best exercises, stretches, meal strategies, etc. were for my particular needs are what impressed me the most about working with him. I appreciated the fact that he “did his homework” before each session and came prepared to give me the latest advice on what exercises I could do to target specific areas of imbalance I had due to my foot surgery. He took the time to demonstrate each stretch or specific lift or mobility drill and answered any questions I had to my satisfaction prior to me actually performing any of his recommended activities.
I am still working towards my ultimate goal, which admittedly is a lifetime goal of being physically fit and able to enjoy life to the fullest with adequate strength and maximum mobility. I don’t know that I will ever reach my true goal because every time I make improvements in technique, strength, weight, etc., I push my goals further out so that I have something else to strive for. Graham has provided encouragement each step of the way. Yes, I would say that I did achieve the outcome I was originally looking for and more!
We started working with Graham after my daughter’s first year of college. We needed someone who could help her maintain her fitness level as a D1 volleyball player and have her ready to go when preseason started. We quickly learned that Graham not only helped with her strength but was tuned in with her movement and helping to improve how she moved to aid in avoiding injuries. We were so impressed we started her younger brother training with Graham as well. He was great at pushing them while being encouraging and making hard work seem fun. They both gained confidence and better understanding of how to train and the importance of training and eating well to achieve their goals. We would recommend Graham to anyone looking to elevate their training program whether for personal goals or athletic goals.
I initially was interested in getting some guidance and coaching for my son, who was 11. I figured I would have a better chance of him succeeding if I joined in to train with him, sharing a coach. I quickly realized I was in much worse shape myself than I realized, and Graham was quickly able to push both my son and me to be healthier. 3 years later, the fringe benefit has become a real lifestyle change for me. My son is now 14 and the change in his physical confidence and ability is significant, and that’s immensely valuable as he works through Middle School and High School. He runs cross country and track, and he swims. I don’t think he could have achieved any of that without Graham’s inspiration and guidance.
Graham has an innate ability to relate to kids of all ages and who are at very different physical stages and degrees of physical confidence. At the same time, he could relate to exactly what I was experiencing in middle age and could push me to be my best. It’s rare to be able to lead 2 different people doing 2 different things in the same hour workout with great effectiveness, but he nailed it every time. My body has not been this healthy maybe ever, but certainly not in years, so I am confident that he is well educated and that he brings his scientific expertise and his emotional intelligence to bear every time you work with him. Moreover, he is constantly learning more and adapting.
My son is in drastically better condition than had we not worked with Graham. I’ve lost 20 pounds, have better muscle tone by a ton compared to where I was, and my BMI is in the ideal range for the first time I can remember. Meanwhile, my son and I had fantastic bonding experiences together during our workouts.
I wanted to work with a trainer due to just being diagnosed as being pre-diabetic. My doctor had discussed medication and for me that was not an option. She asked if I would be willing to see a nutritionist, which I was but also, talked about working out. So, I remembered my son talking about the facility that Graham was at, I went in and he was the trainer that did my intake and it was a perfect match for me. In addition to not taking medicine, I wanted to be physically fit and have what I considered a cute figure that would improve my confidence. By my next physical my numbers were down and there has not been a discussion for medication, and I did lose weight, which led to some wonderful shopping. I have been able to maintain.
I think for the needs that I had with being pre-diabetic, the knowledge Graham has with eating “live” food, the variation of exercises, the energy he brings to the session made me very comfortable with the process. He took time to get to know me as a person, it wasn’t just a business for him, but as his client, it was truly about me meeting my goals and being comfortable with the process. He challenged and motivated me. He reminded me that I was doing this for me, so if I didn’t follow through on an exercise, I was only cheating myself. So, it made me want to truly give 100% every time. I appreciated Graham’s consistency and dedication to me and my needs and his friendship. I am kinda quiet and reserved so it can take a moment for me to warm up, trust and be vulnerable. I was fortunate to have Graham as that person that was a great fit for me and not only me, but my son, who is a college football player.
I started working with Graham about five years ago because I wanted to become a stronger, faster, and overall a better athlete. The main thing I was trying to fix was my speed. Speed is an essential skill to have in my sport, so Graham helped me become faster every session. I worked with one trainer before Graham, but after working with Graham I do not think I will find another trainer so committed to my development. Graham’s positivity and attention to detail is what sticks out most to me. He makes sure that every rep has great form and taught me how to do an exercise if I wasn’t sure how to complete it. I appreciate how committed Graham was to training and helping his clients the most. He always makes sure I leave the gym feeling satisfied with the workout.I have achieved the outcome I was looking for and much more while working with Graham. I have become much stronger and faster than I ever could have imagined when I started.
My husband and I both started working with Graham after witnessing the gains attained by our daughter who is now a college soccer goal keeper. Our goals were in the more mundane areas of improving general fitness levels and holding back the ravages of time a bit. He has done a great job of meeting us where we were in our fitness and working to improve little by little each week. I appreciate his energy and ability to push to the next level in a positive way. I have found quicker recovery after workouts and increases in both strength and endurance. In our daughter’s case, we witnessed her increase in explosiveness, speed and strength on the field. In fact, a concrete metric was her measured and timed testing at a high-level camp earned most improvement in scores among all returning goal keepers.
As an athlete myself, I knew how to help my daughter technically with her sport but was at a loss as to how to help her get faster and stronger in a way that was safe and beneficial for someone her age (especially on top of everything else we were already doing.) We have worked with sport specific coaches for years but none of them have ever had the time or knowledge to look at my daughter’s stride and body shape and help identify the weak/imbalanced areas so that she can perform to her full potential.
We really appreciated Graham’s personability and knowledge. We felt like he really knew our family and took a personal interest in helping us. His sessions were well planned and very insightful. My daughter is a visual learner and Graham took the time to show her again and again until she mastered the exercises. Her confidence on the field also grew as her strength and speed improved.
We were very pleased with all that we learned. We walked away with specific exercises to help with warming up, training and cooling down. Our sessions gave us the knowledge and tools to help our kids perform at their top level. They also pushed them beyond their comfort zone and helped break poor training patterns.
I wish we would have invested in strength/performance training sooner. Honestly, it’s the foundation for whatever your child is going to do – at a basic sport level or at the elite level like we are. The potential this style of training has for injury prevention is also priceless especially for kids who are training multiple nights a week.
We started working with Graham after my daughter finished rehab for ACL reconstruction. We were trying to get her quad back strong evenly with the uninjured leg and increase overall strength to prepare for basketball season. What stood out the most was Graham’s passion. Not just for fitness, but for my daughter as his client. It was always about what was going to make her better and how she responded to the workouts We got far more than what was originally expected. My daughter is healthy and feels like she never hurt her knee, which is greatly due to Graham’s expertise and care. GO TO GRAHAM!! HE KNOWS HIS STUFF AND IS THE TYPE OF PASSIONATE, CARING, AND FUN TRAINER TO GET THE MOST OUT OF YOU!
I met Graham about four years ago when I was training at D1 and Raleigh and he was just a precocious, young trainer with the enthusiasm of a Labrador puppy. Initially, he would tell me about imbalances that he noticed in my body and warning about over-training. Naturally, as any mule-headed male would do, I ignored him and continued to train in an unsustainable and unhealthy manner.
A few months later, I started to feel a dull aching pain right below my knee cap in both knees. We started working together and addressing some of my weaknesses that were contributing to the problem. Slowly(which I never handle well), I started to see progress and my symptoms improved. I was only working with Graham from a monetary standpoint once a week, but he continually went above and beyond anything that could have been asked or expected of a trainer or coach. He would constantly check in and encourage me to do the little things required to start getting healthy. He really does care, even if there’s nothing in it for him. I cannot recommend Graham anymore strongly if you’re looking for a trainer/yoda.
He is wise beyond his years and conveys and infectious enthusiasm that it’s hard not to feel. He really does care about everyone he works with, even if he’s not getting a check directly from them. That speaks volumes about his character. In addition, he is constantly doing research and customized workout/rehabs plans for the needs of his clients and checking in to see how you are progressing. His optimism is a great breath of fresh air when you’ve been coping with the frustrations of long-term pain. He’s a bit unconventional and be ready to take your shoes off, but it’s worth it in that you’re gaining not on a trainer, but a confidante, sounding board and a friend.
I started working with Graham because I wanted a trainer who understood athletes and more importantly athletes that have transitioned out of sports that are looking to stay in shape. I was trying to work on flexibility, lose weight and gain muscle. After working with Graham I have accomplished all of those things and have more endurance and energy too. Graham is passionate about both his work and relationships going above and beyond to help me meet and exceed my goals.
From years of playing sports, my joints were not working as I was accustomed to. I was working with another trainer who left the area to take on new endeavors, so Graham took over my training sessions and introduced a whole new way of thinking and approaching my fitness. He pressed the importance of movement and how sedentary behaviors was a major point of emphasis for adults heading into their retirement age. This was a very intriguing topic for me as I approach my mid 50’s. I do sit for long periods at work and Graham has been a tremendous coach for me, installing activities I can use during work time and at night.
Graham is a very optimistic individual who displays genuine care and concern upon meeting his for the first time. The most important trait for me working with a trainer is accountability and I loved how punctual and attentive Graham is during our sessions. He engages you throughout your whole session. The importance of this is twofold, first it is informative, so I am true to form when working on my own and it also works as a diversion to the hard work he is putting you through.
Performance coaching for me is not just about losing weight. It’s the education and knowledge we need to manage a healthy body as we are getting older. Engaging with someone as talented and educated as Graham will have a lasting effect for many years to come. There is always something new to learn or work on that will make aging less of a concern. Graham dedicates his free time to learning more about mobility, strength and performance coaching which has an immediate impact on my wellbeing.
I wanted to start working with Graham to improve my overall health and fitness for high school volleyball. My main goal was to up my strength and work on my vertical jump skills. I also was trying to eat better to stay on top of my health, in and outside of sports. I have been around a lot of fitness throughout my life with my mom being a fitness instructor and playing sports throughout school, but I had never had my own personal trainer that did workouts specific to my needs and abilities.
Working with Graham was one of the best decisions I have made for myself regarding sports and my life in general. Graham was always very knowledgeable about every workout I was doing as well as health related questions I had regarding my diet. I could go to Graham for a lot of other things outside of my fitness which made working out so much more enjoyable, I definitely gained a friend along with a personal trainer. Graham guided me along the right path, for workouts and my diet. Working with him has given me so much knowledge about how to properly exercise on my own.
I started working with Graham ~2 years ago after my children started working with Graham on speed and strength training for their respective sports. I had gained a significant amount of weight, was de-conditioned from a sedentary desk job, and had no good way to relieve stress. My goal was to combine conditioning and strength exercises to reduce my weight, improve my strength and cardiovascular conditioning, and reduce stress.
What I appreciated most about Graham was his positive attitude. He was always encouraging and developed plans that were specific to where I was at with my strength and condition. My progress has been good with a healthy drop in weight, improved strength, and substantial improvements in conditioning. Having a coach can make a big difference in your success. They can not only set up individual workout plans but can work with you to ensure your weightlifting technique is correct and that it blends with your conditioning efforts to maximize your training outcomes.
I began working with Graham after an ankle break during football season. After my cast came off I lost strength and favored my stronger side. Graham worked with me to regain my strength and mobility. His knowledge and understanding of how the body works and how to maximize output and recovery stood out most. He was always able to find the right lift or stretch for whatever was bothering you. He has a great knowledge of anatomy and how diet played a role in building a strength. He focused on mobility not just flexibility, strength. He was a fun guy to work out with – always had a positive attitude and was able to lift me up when I was frustrated. I was grateful for the progress that was made during the sessions. I became even stronger than before my injury. I was able to continue making gains after our sessions ended. The outcome exceeded expectations!
The thing that I really needed to improve on was my strength and work to gain muscle/weight. I started working with Graham because the conversations that we had before starting made me believe that he was the best person to do that with. Every day we combined lifting with agility/conditioning work that was centered around my goal of adding strength. Along with giving me a nutrition plan, it proved to me that he was the best person to help me accomplish my goals.
The thing that I liked/appreciated the most about working with Graham is the personal sense of caring and helping me work towards my goals. Often times, he would do the entire workout with me so that we could push each other, and I could see exactly how to do everything correctly and be challenged. That was something that I had never seen before with other trainers and it made the workouts much more enjoyable and intense. I definitely got the outcome I was looking for and saw noticeable gains in my bench, squat, etc. throughout the summer.
The one thing that helped a lot with that was the nutrition plan that I was given that helped me put the right food in my body to maximize muscle mass while gaining weight. If you are looking for a coach, ask the right questions before you begin to make sure that you will be getting all the right help that you need. I believe that there is a lot more that goes into it than just putting together a workout every day and finding the right person for you makes a big difference. For me, Graham was always very personal and helpful but knew when I might not have been working as hard as I could and worked to push me.
Initially Graham talked to me about working on my core and he could improve the chronic back issues I have experienced for the last 20 years. As a physician I doubted him. As a person who is always suspicious, I thought he was another health/trainer type trying to make me believe he had the next, newest best treatment for ailment “X”. Insert whatever problem you have where the X is. But after several weeks, I noticed a change in my posture and my attitude. I felt better just trying to stand up from a seated position. My back issues became much less frequent. People at work told me I looked different and were asking me if I was losing weight.
Before Graham, I just did my own cardio…essentially running 3 to 5 miles 4 to 5 times a week. Most of my running was on a treadmill and sometimes it was outside. After training with Graham, I realized I was not really doing as much as I could have done. Although running was good for my heart and allowed me to eat more, I realized it was doing nothing for my core and that is where all of my problems were coming from. I realized running was just ‘falling forward’
I am a physician. I have observed a large number of people have back issues in their 40’s. After my experience with Graham, I have realized that most of us, as we become older, lose core strength because we sit at our jobs, we take the elevator, we sit in our cars in traffic or while our kids are doing their activities…..we progressively become more sedentary and the normal stresses of life decrease our activity. Strengthening your core will help tremendously. Graham was good at providing isolated strength movements tailored to my issue. My wife has even told me my back was in better shape when I was working out with Graham.
I liked Graham because he was approachable, down to earth, and he was easy to have a conversation with. My son related well with him and I did as well. Basically Graham is just a good guy and I felt comfortable and at ease around him.
Graham, I wanted to drop you a quick note to express my gratitude for all of your efforts on behalf of Megan. As you know, the process of recovery from an ACL reconstruction seems endless at times. There is so much involved in getting an athlete back in the game after such a procedure. Every athlete involved in that process needs to have people advocating for them and working with them to make their recovery as complete and expeditious as possible. You have been just such an advocate for Megan.
Quite frankly, when Megan’s physical therapist first recommended that we have a personal trainer involved in her rehab, I was skeptical. I had used personal trainers myself and had coached athletes who had used trainers. In neither of those instances did I see much benefit to myself or my runners. However, after you have worked with Megan for the past 3-4 months, you have completely changed my perspective. In our house we just say “Graham is worth his weight in gold”!
You have reset the bar for athletic trainers. Your commitment to Megan’s recovery and improvement goes way beyond what we anticipated or could even have hoped for. You have done it all, from gait analysis, to strength training, to speed training and even working on regaining her confidence. Every session it seems that Megan gets stronger, faster and closer to her pre injury form. It has been amazing to watch your skill and personal attention down to the finest detail to ensure that she is better, stronger and faster than ever before.
In short, you do an absolutely amazing job!!! I can’t speak highly enough about all that you do. You can be sure that we will recommend you to anyone looking for personal training, help in recovery, or just looking to improve at their chosen athletic endeavor. We are truly grateful for all that you have done and continue to do.
Our son, Scott, has had the privilege to work with Graham for over the past year and a half. Graham has done an excellent job in all these areas – creating a plan and guiding Scott to achieve his goals. My husband and I most definitely recommend Graham highly. But the best recommendation comes from Scott – he says Graham is the best because he really cares. Scott truly respects and likes Graham; he is a terrific coach, mentor and person.
